Organized by The Circle for the third time this year, the Young Architects Selection and Exhibition, which aims to create an up-to-date archive of the practices that contribute to the architectural culture of Turkey, opened at The Circle. Co-sponsored by Jotun, Otiima, VitrA and Zuhal Music, the exhibition can be visited on Tuesdays-Sundays between 11.00 – 19.00 until February 18. GEMSS’23 was selected by the Selection Committee consisting of Alexis Şanal, Ertuğ Uçar, Matthew Warner, Merve Bedir, Yılmaz Değer and Zehra Akdemir Veryeri, who met online under the moderation of Sait Ali Köknar. At the opening night held at The Circle with the participation of specially invited guests, GEMSS’23 selected architects were presented with their awards. The special tour moments where the architects in the selection talked about their productions and works attracted great interest from the audience. At the opening night, The Circle’s Architecture Gallery Istanbul, which will be realized in 2024, was announced for the first time. The gallery aims to become a new communication channel for the architectural ecosystem with the exhibitions it will organize and the built environment and architectural issues it will address. The exhibition features 10 practices (6 individuals and 4 teams) and 14 individuals who continue their practices in alternative fields, scales and mediums of architecture in Turkey and around the world. The exhibition, enriched by the diversity of the practices in the selection, which shows that the thinking and making process of architecture can spread to wide perimeters, brings together the intellectual identities of the designers with their visitors through their productions. The exhibition, which includes multidimensional physical and digital productions, includes panels on the productions of the practices included in the selection, three-dimensional objects, as well as sections of their production processes, sketches of their interests, complementary items and portfolios. Selected from 87 qualified applicants, 10 practices are represented in the GEMSS’23 exhibition. Bringing together the GEMSS community and the architectural and cultural scene, the exhibition is accompanied by a series of side events and a publication that will take place throughout January and February. Detailed information about the side events will be announced soon on The Circle website and social media accounts.
