Founded in 1928 on the orders of Atatürk, the nursery was developed by taking advantage of the Italian horticultural experience of the period. One of the symbols of the agricultural and economic development of the newly established republic, the area, which was Turkey’s first orchard and nursery, is today home to many protected species. In 1997, Büyükdere Atatürk Nursery ceased its activities and became idle after suffering great damage over time. The area, which was left to its fate for 26 years, will serve the city as a new green area by preserving its historical value and natural structure with the realization of the project. The 180,000 m2 project area in Sarıyer district includes many different functions besides the nursery.
In line with the design developed to create a new and active green area that preserves the historical values of the region and includes different public programs as well as urban production; it is aimed to create structures that can serve in the fields of education, R&D, recreation and production.
Public programs added to the area within the scope of the project: Erhan Boysanoğlu Work, Art and Children’s Workshops, Ahmet Bedevi Library, Istanbul Foundation Building, Social Solidarity and Support Center, BELTUR Restaurant / Cafeteria, Lifelong Learning Center (Institute İstanbul ISMEK), Büyükdere Atatürk Nursery Memorial, Garden Market, Yuvamız Istanbul Nursery Units, Observation Tower, Local Seed Center, Gardening School, children’s playground, event area, skateboard track, basketball court, bicycle-pedestrian paths, parking lot.
