The fourth exhibition addressing “culture” of Vitra Contemporary Architecture Series has the name “Watch out! Slippery Floor”. The exhibition curated by Yelda Köm and coordinated by Pelin Derviş will be at Istanbul Modern from March 26 to May 31.
The exhibition named “Watch out! Slippery Floor” deals with the structure of culture actors which stands fixed, not communicating with others, that is introverted, holding on tightly to a specific floor. With this perspective, on the other hand, it reveals the symbols and rituals of the cultural architecture; on the other hand, demonstrates that there are other structures besides these clichés. The exhibition reminds us that architecture and the culture of architecture are part of day-to-day lives, that they live continuously and that everyone is the creator and consumer of this culture environment.
Based on all these, the exhibition will search for answers to questions like “How will architects position themselves in today’s world of culture?”, “How do architects become part of culture production?”, “How this closed state of architecture and architects be overcome, how can it be solved?”. The individuals invited as participants to the exhibition from different geographies and experiences, will create answers to these questions from their own perspectives. The exhibition, where contemporary technologies and their products will be employed, will take us to a journey towards social and popular perspective of architecture. Alongside of cultural approaches on architecture, how architecture is a phenomenon which may touch any one will be shown. The show designed as a culture landscape will create a field of experience through which one can pass, not fixed on a single topic, in which everyone can easily spend time. Events like the whole address and workshops set up part of this field will nurture the exhibition.
Contemporaneously with the exhibition, panels and events will be held and a book reviewing the culture assets in Turkey will be published.
