Presenting a unique exploration milieu to the promising artists of the year in the scope of contemporary arts, Mamut Art Project, which will be organized for its 7th edition in 2019, will showcase more than 500 works selected among nearly 1350 submissions from a total of 50 artists, including 25 women and 25 men. Mamut Art Project, which set out as an accessible art alternative and grew each year with the productions of new artists, introduces an interdisciplinary opportunity of sharing and exhibiting to artists who have been selected among submissions by the jury, whose members alternate annually and are experts in different fields. In the scope of this year’s submission period, the Mamut team have personally discussed the portfolios and answered the questions of more than 250 artists in the scope of Portfolio Days, which was held in Diyarbakır, Mardin and Çanakkale, in addition to İstanbul. The 2019 edition of Mamut received 1350 submissions from various cities of Turkey, which marks the highest number ever reached to date. Visited by 35,000 people only in the last 2 years, Mamut Art Project’s 2019 jury is comprised of Memed Erdener (Extramücadele), one of the leading artists of contemporary art, collector Ari Meşulam, curator and author Aslı Seven, art historian Prof. Burcu Pelvanoğlu (PhD) and, lastly, Yeşim Turanlı, the founder of Pi Artworks. The works to be exhibited span a wide spectrum of production fields including photography, collage, installation, sculpture, video, painting, illustration, digital and textile art. Artists creating spaces within spaces, addressing global issues, carrying out form-based research through conventional patterns, examining body shapes with textile materials, and working with a plethora of materials by tackling similar subjects, will exhibit their works in dedicated 10-sqm personal spaces. Mamut Kids Workshops, which have been introduced to the side events programme for the first time last year, Mamut Performances, which have been growingly continuing for the last 3 years, and the collaboration with the KRÜW team, will all continue to offer different experiences this year just as they did in the previous editions. The 2019 edition will also feature a new segment entitled Mamut SHOTS, where influential figures working in different fields of creative sectors will deliver short speeches in order to motivate the visitors of Mamut.
