The Design Scene İstanbul, realized for the first time this year by the architecture and design office Atelier187, will bring together four designers from the furniture, fashion, photography and sculpture disciplines in the historical building of the Cezayir Restaurant. The event, allowing the opportunity to view the new works that the artists will arrange as specific for the venue, will be accompanied by chats and workshops.
The founder of Atelier187, architect and designer Osman Hacıoğlu with his 2015 Furniture Collection, the Spanish fashion designer Susana J. Denia with her 2015 Summer Collection, the French photography artist Julien Aksoy with the Photograph Collection titled “Urban Scenes” and Tarkan Güveli with his works specially designed for this meeting, will unite at Cezayir.
The four artists inspired by the Cezayir building, which was built in 1901 by the Italian Workers’ Society as a school, restored in 2005 and started to serve under the Cezayir Restaurant brand, and bearing the contemporary architectural characteristics of the 1900’s, will present their works by a special installation in the historical environment of the building.
In the program, where there will be workshops and chats open to everyone in addition to the exhibition, the end of the day events will be live music and DJ performances. Osman Hacıoğlu, noting that their main objective was for designers and artists from different disciplines to be inspired by each other and produce collective works from various approaches, says that they have prepared the program of the Design Scene starting off with the “atelier” understanding that has also defined the birth of Atelier187.
The Design Scene İstanbul, where participation will be free of charge, may be viewed during May 21-24, at the entrance and garden stories of the Cezayir Restaurant.
