SANATORIUM says hello to the new season with two exhibitions.
Gizem Akkoyunoğlu’s first solo show and “And Every Step of the
Way” has black and white, charcoal and black crayon works cover
the artist’s works done in the last year. The exhibition set up by
Akkoyunoğlu in three sections sets out with the journey of a fictional
character and each section addresses a chapter of the main story, a
segment of the journey of the character. In time, the covered distance
transforms into an objective from a tool. The character rediscovers
herself and her environment and her journey ends at the point where
she realizes that the real journey is the return trip.
Sounds of secrecy, which is Yunus Emre Erdoğan’s first solo show
includes the artist’s latest period works. In a search which swings
between the physical boundaries of space and the limits of his
subjective comprehension, the artist pursues his beholding action
in private space having been withdrawn in himself. Reduced details,
locking the glance within the space, cutting off his relationship with
the outside, come to attention in Erdoğan’s work as if the inner trip
of the artist becomes concrete with the cross-sections he has picked
whereever he is. The works which are predominantly done by charcoal
have an atmosphere as tense as it is serene. It can be said the spatial
elements in the details, from time to time, shed formality serving a
new perspective with the original use of technique.
“And Every Step of the Way” and “Sounds of Secrecy” may be visited
at SA NATORIUM from September 1 to October 3.
