(strong)27th International Building and Life Congress in Bursa, organized by TMMOB
Architects Association Bursa Branch, will be held at Bursa Merinos
Atatürk Convention Culture Center October 1-2, with the theme “The Language
of Urban Void”.
The theme is explained as follows in the congress text: “The current unplanned
and uncontrolled urban development process fails to provide not
only the necessary habitat but also socialization opportunities for individuals.
This process results in cities where the elements which bring together groups
with different social characteristics are based on religious or ethnic thoughts.
Moreover, it is observed that the factionalisms that create social separation
also appear to be against each other in the face of social and political events.
This is mainly due to politics that has caused polarization. Regrettably, planning
processes in many countries are executed behind closed doors and are
imposed on the society by ignoring participation and excluding architects,
urban planners, other experts, and more importantly, the demands of users.
We believe that the debate on the language of public spaces is significant for
the future of such countries where there is a lack of a democratic tradition
and where politics is based on beliefs and frames of mind.”
