“Memory palace” or “mnemonics” has been frequently used as a remembering and data classification technique in Antiquity and the Medieval World. With the help of this technique, the concepts that installed in physical spaces (image, script, symbol or object) could be associated with each other and remembered at sight. It was suf ficient for one to look around in order to know how to behave. Along with cathedrals, wonder chambers and the Enlightment Movement later on, the relation between words and things was moved to an abstract plat form through language. (see also Encyclopedia and Wikipedia) Organized within the scope of the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial, this workshop aims to generate Another Map of Istanbul which is kept out of municipality magazines, tourist maps, metrobus stops and newspaper headlines. Embodying visual and textual productions, the workshop is being held by Erdem Üngür, Asiye Akgün, Ceren Göğüş, İlke Tekin and Erenus Atilla. Taking place at TAK Kadikoy between September 30 – October 3, the workshop is organized
as a public event for individuals who are able to use Photoshop and similar digital visualization sof twares and especially for the graduate and post-graduate students of architecture, interior architecture, industrial design, visual communication design and social sciences.
