The 20th-year exhibition of Gallery Apel, entitled Nostospective, will launch on November 4. Regarding the story of these twenty years, the gallery states:
“Gallery Apel was established in November 1998 in Beyoğlu and it has always served at the same place, without any interruptions. Although Beyoglu constantly faces architectural and social transformations on a large scale, it always maintains its position as the cultural center of Istanbul. Gallery Apel was designed in this sense in 1994 and since then, it has witnessed this district’s interesting years, full of contradictions. As the veteran gallery entered its 20th year, it has selected a different exhibition layout that brings together its past and present. It dreamed of exhibiting once again the works included in solo or themed exhibitions launched previously in the scope of Apel and further asking the artists who created them to create new works. Spreading over the entire season, this exhibition will adopt the same dynamism just as in the act of remembering. During this process, these works will leave their places to others and the exhibition will advance by partially changing in context. Considering that a nostalgic fluctuation would be inevitable on the way we follow, rather than a chronological approach, we entitled the event ‘Nostospective’.”
