Another one of Broadway’s longest running shows is coming to Istanbul. It is “The Phantom of the Opera”, bearing the same title as the classical novel by Gaston Leroux.
The show is based on Erique, Paris Opera’s talented musician who wears a mask because of a defect on half of his face, and her obsessive love for beautiful soprano Christine. The new owner of the Opera, Vicompte Raoul de Chagny starts to have feelings for Christine and mysterious incidents begin to take place because of the jealousy brought to Erique by this interest.
So far, approximately ten million people worldwide viewed The Phantom of the Opera musical for the first time put on stage in 1986 at the Royal Theater in London. The show received 50 awards including 7 Tony Awards, 7 Drama Desk Awards, 3 Oliver Awards and 3 Outer Critic’s Circle Awards.
The Phantom of the Opera to be viewed with the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer of famed shows like Cats and Miss Saigon, and directed by Harold Prince, will be in Zorlu Center PSM through April.
