The team named G124 consisting of Italian architect Renzo Piano and 6 young architects, transforms idle spaces in the suburbs of Italy. Transformation of a vacant abandoned lot under a viaduct in Rome into a lively cultural basin, is one of the projects accomplished by the team. In the project entitled “Under the Viaduct”, a public area to host various events was designed. Using recycled materials and containers, multi-purpose and attractive locations were created. The idle urban space was revitalized using urban furniture and installations.
G124 seeks to bring back to life the forgotten urban spaces by new projects. The team hopes to realize its public space designs, making decisions together with the administration. The next project of G124, which works with local organizations and public authorities, is to create a transportation network comprising bicycle paths, enhancing accessibility of public to park areas.
