Rem Koolhaas’s studio OMA and its research arm, AMO; adding a new one to the projects it has been holding with Prada for over 25 years, designed a podium for the 2015 Fall-Winter collection fashion show of the brand. The podium named Infinite Palace, launched at Milan Moda Uomo in Milan in January, which attracted big interest; gives the feeling of infinity to its visitors with its mirrors, and symettrical and multiple corridors reminiscent of galleries. The podium, emphasizing the rootedness of the renowned Italian fashion brand and sophisticated line, at the same time points to the timelessness of Prada designs.
Transforming the brand’s building on Milano Via Fogazzaro into a design tank temporarily instead of creating just a single podium, fragmenting the space into 8 different sizes, forms venues each different from the other. The team, by remarking that this design decision, they sought “to have the visitor to experience moments each one different from each other”; points out that the models, travelling through the corridors one after another allow different perspectives in different rooms, through a timelessness-infinity perception.
The spaces which also refer to the dark technological, dominant and minimal lines in Prada’s 2015 collection, enjoy a sophisticated material spectrum ranging from aluminum mesh to dark marble walls. With the light and texture plays afforded by the materials, “Infinite Palace” promises a striking fashion show experience.
