Famed fashion designer Alexander Wang, in an out-of-ordinary collaboration with Austrialian surf ware brand Haydenshapes, interpreted the prized “Hypto Krypto” surfboards of the brand. Five pieces of surfboards, manufactured in limited number to be exhibited as an installation in Wang’s store at Soho, New York, which are all handmade; are expected to cool down the summer with their marble looks. The graphics, developed by Alexander Wang and Haydenshapes founder Hayden Cox, and resembling marble with their texture; were transferred on silk by the digital printing technique and then transformed into a surfboard. Surfboards, suspended in a black cage at the center of the store space, displayed together with Wang’s signature black leather handbags and stilettos among black “waves”, underscore the tough and wamp stance of the designer.
Marble interpretations are highly significant among Alexander Wang’s most recent period works. The American designer reveals his interest in this material also with the widespread marble use in his New York store where the surfboards are on display.
