Alaçatı Port LaDera Hotel is located in Alaçatı, an Aegean town on the western coast of Turkey. The story of Alaçatı to become a town renowned for its architecture, vegetation, windmills and vineyards has its origins back to 1850s. Being the third best windsurf center in the world with its steady wind and crystal clear sea, Alaçatı has recently become one of the most popular holiday resorts of the world along with its beaches, cafes, restaurants, shops and night life.
Port LaDera Hotel is situated at the hillside of the land, overlooking the stunning view of Port Alaçatı and also the surf center. Designed by the French architect François Spoerry, Port Alaçatı was built as a replica of the world-famous Grimaud Harbor, which was also created by the same designer in Côte d’Azur. Drawing attention by having boats anchored to the seaside privately for the home owners along with their small gardens located inside the port, the villas embody a line of design that integrates the breeze of small Aegean fishing towns with the theme of Mediterranean houses.
Standing for the “port at the hillside” and named after its location, Port LaDera Hotel was founded by three siblings of a well-known family of the region, having various businesses in different parts of Alaçatı for many years. It was started off with an understanding that foregrounds the quality of service and hospitality, owing to the fact that founders closely know the region and gained experience in the industry for many years. In addition to the architectural restoration project and the interior and exterior design, all the details from the landscape arrangements to the sheet sets used in the room sections, from corporate logo to the design of printed objects were realized by the interior architect and designer Selina Kazazoğlu.
The diversity of Alaçatı’s architectural texture and nature has been the main starting point of the project. The narrow streets of the town, wooden doors and windows of the houses and the local stones of Alaçatı, which are used in constructions, have all become a source of inspiration for the designer. The vegetation texture of the hotel area provided a basis for the color scale. The riveting industrial finishings are designed as a reflection of the boats in the port. Selina Kazazoğlu, who aimed to emphasize the value that is attributed to the quality of service through material selections and also the details she has created since the beginning of the project, aspired to realize a hotel design through blending her style with two different concepts, where guests will not want to leave the hotel. Having juxtaposed the beach and coastline touches with eclectic details, the designer has integrated the complementary parts with the industrial symbols of the port.
Having a land area of 1,500 sqm and a total construction area of 940 sqm, the project has 18 guest rooms consisting of 2 deluxe double rooms with bay windows, 2 deluxe queen double rooms, 10 standard double rooms and 4 triple rooms having garden views. Embodying three stories with the basement floor included, the first and second floors of the building are designed in L-shape. Because of the hot climatic conditions, creating cool and shaded areas is foregrounded throughout the project as an important element for guests will prefer to spend most of their times outdoors. The outdoor area spreading out over 600 sqm, is designed to contain the pool section, sunbathing area, yoga area, bar and sitting section. The reception section was built as a seperate building through a planning that connects it with the entrance section and lobby at the outdoor space.
Owing to the proximity of the hotel to the surf center, the spaces representing the beach concept are decorated with comfortable and cozy details in order to remind guests of the sea and the beach. The faded colors of the land are revitalized with the colors of windsurf sails and the enclosed restaurant and bar sections are shaded with wicker materials while maintaining the same line of design with lighting. In the pool section, the specially applied sandy plaster texture is arranged to be in line with linear lighting elements after sunset. Additionally, rocks representing the local texture are illuminated by lighting elements below and the beach impact is further emphasized once again. The soft-textured, complementary ceramic objects are chosen to evoke the gravels on the beach.
The details representing the eclectic style, which is one of the two concepts that make up the entire design output, are used exclusively as signs of the high standards which the hotel offers. Being an indispensable element for the designer, the industrial objects support the masculine and massive emphasis in all of the spaces and the curvy details that shine out in the room sections, reflect the flexibility and warmth of the feminine style. While the significant architectural movements are referred via furnitures pertaining to different periods, the materials used on surfaces and all the objects have been turned into works of art by being removed from their original regions and periods. All the textile products used in the hotel, where the smell of vanilla and the sound of delighting music are continuously presented together , have been designed and produced through a meticulous process. All the towels and sheets are of top quality and pure cotton.
