Today, when debates over social gender and female figure have been re-intensified in Turkey, ITU Faculty of Architecture Department of Interior Architecture, is hosting a national symposium on International Women’s Day 2019, having the theme “Women, Design and Space”. The symposium to be held between March 8-9, aims to create a well-attended and interdisciplinary discussion platform that will, starting from the largest-scale design discipline (urban design, architecture, interior architecture, product design, fashion design, etc.), interact with human and social sciences (feminist theory, history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, economy, politics, etc.), literature, visual arts (cinema, graphics, interaction design, game design, advertising and public relations, etc.), and performative arts (experimental music, dance and theater), which all contribute to the design discipline. In this framework, the symposium invites research and critical studies from all disciplines that question opinions, approaches and evaluations towards women along the axis of women’s studies, while aiming to create a platform for sharing where participants coming from different disciplines can come together, and unveiling a memory production by which studies to be selected after the symposium will turn into publications in a book format.
