Opened its doors at Borusan Contemporary in the Haunted Mansion in Rumelihisari, “teamLab: Between Art and Physical Space” comprises of studies of teamLab, the Japanese contemporary artists assemblage, towards strengthening the interaction between the fictional artistic world and the physical world of the audience through using digital technologies.
As for the exhibition “Deck Voyage” curated by Necmi Sönmez, it’s a group exhibition mainly consisting of works that represent the new acquisitions to Borusan Contemporary Art Collection.
Designating the fact that he endeavors to pave the way for different artistic perspectives, Sönmez remarked: “In the exhibition, there are contemporary art works that are created through different techniques. These works that are created by using techniques like sculpture, video, photograph and paintings are installed in different rooms on 9 stories as part of various notions. We can define this exhibition’s technique as interdisciplinary. It’s a new implementation in Turkey. We gathered works that are capable of addressing the senses and perceptions of the visitors.”
One of the artists of teamLab, Ikkan Sanada emphasizes that they have been working as a team for 15 years and says: “We started our studies with 5 members. Now we have 400 artists within our organization. teamLab is a team that works towards expanding the meaning of art. We concentrate on interactive digital studies where we can involve the visitors. Our primary goal is to establish a much more different relationship between art and audience. Instead of turning the audience into an observer, we endeavor to integrate them into the event.”
“teamLab: Between Art and Physical Space” is being exhibited in the temporary exhibition space of the Haunted Mansion. As for “Deck Voyage” which has been created on the basis of the book entitled “A Journey Towards the Edge of Life” by Tezer Özlü, it is being exhibited at spaces off the temporary exhibition areas.
