Countdown begins for the 8th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition final series, which has gained
the respect of the international music community, with the young talent it has introduced to the
world of opera.
The 8th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition organized by İstanbul Art Culture Foundation (IKSV)
and La Scala Theater Academy will take place in collaboration with Poland National Opera, Adam
Mickiewicz Institute, Italian Culture Center and Kadıköy Municipality and the support of Borusan
Sanat. The open to public semi-final of the competition will be on September 9th and the final
on September 11th at the Süreyya Opera House.
The auditions for the 8th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition held in Paris, London, Berlin, Milan,
Warsaw and İstanbul were attended by 100 young performers under 32 years of age from 24
different countries. Internationally recognized names served in the audition juries formed individually
at every location. In total, 42 young performers of 14 different nationalities selected in
the auditions will be in İstanbul in September to take part in the final series. Many agents and
opera directors from Europe will be among those following the competition, featuring youth
getting ready to compete in İstanbul to acquire a place in the world of opera, including 4
sopranos, 1 mezzosoprano, 1 baritone and 1 bass.
