Organized by the Chamber of Architects, the International Exhibition of Architecture and Awards Ceremony will be held on May 16 at the Ankara Akün Stage.
Foregrounding with the goal to develop the profession and culture of architecture as the first corporate entrepreneur in Turkey, the International Exhibition of Architecture and Awards Program has been organized by the Chamber of Architects for the first time in 1988 dedicated to the memory of 400th anniversary of Mimar Sinan’s death. For the 14 periods up until now, 2129 works have been included in the program, 120 works and 44 individuals / organizations have been awarded in various sections. Resuming for 30 years, the program will be celebrating its 15th period in 2016.
International Exhibition of Architecture and Awards, both contributes for successful young architects to gain recognition and allows for Turkish architects to have international popularity. Architects and works nominated for significant architecture awards for the purpose of representing Turkish architecture in the international stage are being selected between award winners and/or contestants. Award-winning works then become automatic candidates in international award programs such as Ağa Han Architecture Awards, Mies Van Der Rohe Modern Architecture Awards. Therefore, it’s aspired for works and architects representing the Turkish architecture inside and outside Turkey to gain recognition in different platforms. As a result, increasing the publicity of the architectural work, recognizing the right and liability of the architect and popularizing the details of professional practices are substantiated.
All of the works participated and awarded in the exhibition will be displayed primarily in Ankara. Until the next award period, it is relaunching through moving in between many events in our country and overseas within the frame of the program. All of the participatory works are being represented publicly to national and international architecture scene along with National Architecture Awards Catalogue issued in English and Turkish. The catalogue contributes to introduce and popularize intellectual inventiveness and aesthetic appreciation in the current and modern Turkish architecture through reaching out to trade body libraries at the world countries affiliated with UIA and university, research center and speciality libraries in Turkey and overseas.
