THE TAKSIM URBAN DESIGN CONTEST
The IBB
Department of Cultural Property is organizing the Taksim Urban Design Contest
in attempt to reach out to architects, landscape architects, and urban planners
to put forth ideas and project proposals for Taksim Square. Open to individuals
and teams alike, the Contest aims to shape the future of Taksim, and to put
forth a collective reading of the intention, demands, and practices behind the square’s
many generated, consumed, and erased hallmarks in order to better understand
it. The Contest is of international calibre and two-phased. Its set up offers a
new approach to how design competitions ought to be practiced in Turkey. The
deadline for phase one is May 10, 2020.
Again, urban planners, architects, and landscape architects alike can
sign up for the Contest either individually or in teams. The Contest is
sponsored by the IBB Department of Cultural Property, and will transform
Taksim’s future.
