BAKIRKÖY CUMHURIYET SQUARE URBAN DESIGN COMPETITION

by the City of Istanbul, the Bakırköy Cumhuriyet / Freedom Square Urban Design
Competition aims to transform Bakırköy Cumhuriyet Square from an undefined
urban space into an integral element of urban life, and in doing so, create a
public space that meets everyone’s needs. The Competition calls to re-design
Istanbul’s social and physical accessibility through public spaces that cater
to society’s spatial needs, reflect the city’s identity, and support the fruits
of its free policy. At the same, it is a tool that open the way for the
construction of a public space that will not only stir people’s imagination,
but will also strengthen their sense of belonging and community spirit…
something which Bakırköy is losing. The public has until April 16, 2020 to ask
questions [about the contest. The deadline for submissions is July 27, 2020.
