This year, the Symposium of Numerical Design in Architecture will be organized with the theme “Encounters: Crises and Possibilities” in the light of the current events. The symposium will be taking place on June 27-28 and the deadline for submitting abstracts is March 25.
Announcement of the symposium is as follows:
“While our daily lives pass through ecological, economic and social crises surrounded by current news such as wars, migrations, terrorist events and energy shortage, the collapsed lifestyles in the meantime trigger new alternatives to rise today. Actions that may seem irrelated such as new production models, ‘maker’ culture, trade economy, new ways of communication, are in fact signs of a future, where daring possibilities can be created against crises which have been transformed by new technologies.
It seems that it’s necessary for disciplines like architecture, design, technology, ecology and sociology to uncover their knowledge for “encounters” into a common ground more than ever before. Where does the numerical technologies stand for creating alternative organizations for people who got drifted apart from the source of nature, nutrition, waste, energy, knowledge and basically anything that they consumed, to get them back into the center of their lives? During these days where crises and possibilities encounter, in which fields numerical design, production and communication can make an expansion for us aiming a better world? Which unexpected data encounters with each other in this new world modeling itself through data networking and self-forming within data streaming? How and by which strategies all these transformations and researchs reflect into design education?
The Numerical Design in Architecture Symposium will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. We are awating your attendance to discuss the sorts of new possibilities and alternatives created through different approaches and experiences in numerical design and production field, in a crisis-based agenda.”
Extended abstracts and full papers sent to the symposium will be evaluated by the science council. Format for extended abstracts will be announced later. The chosen abstracts will be published onwards in Yapi Magazine.
