Located in Valle D’Itria of the Ostunia countryside, this smart and connected house is designed to work and relax. The house is reinterpreted with the traditional forms and materials of the rural areas of Puglia, while the automation technology provides complete control through the Smart Device app and optimizes energy consumption. An important German manager and their spouse have chosen Puglia to live, work and think. Situated at the rural part of Ostuni, the land holds an elevated ground and has an inviting landscape covered with beautiful olive trees. The project set out with the idea of a central patio that would ensure passive protection from the sun in the warm southern Mediterranean climate. The house is formed around a C-shaped patio, while the north-facing wide windows are used to protect from the Pugliese sun and to enjoy the view. The east corner houses a living area and studio for the homeowner along with a kitchen and dining area for his wife, while the west corner embodies a studio and a master bedroom. The west end embodies a guest room with seperate entrance and services. The swimming pool, gazebo and sauna positioned in front of the porch at the northern facade of the house, overlooks a green landscape. The finishing materials indigeneous to Puglia are rendered into a contemporary character thanks to architectural details; the project features drywalls and lime plaster for walls, oak for minimal window frames and Apricena stone for claddings. Upon the request of homeowners, the house is equipped with the KNX home automation system, which works through a web server connected to the network in order to remotely control the functionality of the house via apps present in smart devices. The entrance and the video door-phone, security and alarm systems, air conditioning systems and all of the lighting elements are being controlled by the home automation system. The energy saving is achieved through integrated heat pump system, solar panels, photovoltaics, charging stations for electric vehicles and consumption monitoring.
