ROCHE TURKEY’S NEW HEADQUARTERS OFFICE WHICH IS COMPLETED IN THE
PAST FEW DAYS, IS SET UP ON THE CONCEPT “HAPPY OFFICES NEED HAPPY
EMPLOYEES”.
Roche Turkey headquarters is in Uniq Plaza is Istanbul,
Maslak. The office, which is the product of an international
collaboration, the endeavors of Brazilian architecture
studio Moema Wertheimer (MW) Arquitetura and Bakırküre
Architects, spreads over six thousand square meters,
hosting two hundred and twenty Roche employees.
The architects, who set up their designs on the concept “happy offices
need happy employees”, note that to that end; as the first step of the
project, they came together with Roche Turkey employees and organized
a workshop where they shared what made them happy or unhappy in
their then-present offices and their dreams about their new one. The ideas
generated during the workshop and answers to surveys have transformed
into Roche Turkey’s new headquarters in just three months.
There are spaces of different functions and dimensions allowing different
styles of working, formal and informal conference and meeting roooms, training
and workshop spaces, cafeterias, leisure areas, thematic rooms and even
play and massage rooms may be found at the headquarters. Enjoyable spaces
not only result in productive work but also create a working environment
of socialization. Encounters and potential collaboration among employees of
different departments trigger inspirations and new ideas.
Care was taken that the Turkish office of Roche, which was supersector
leader in the Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology & Life Sciences Industry category
of Dow Jones Sustainability Index, is set up in a manner as innovative
and environmentalist as the firm’s concept.
A NATURAL AND STERILE SETTING PERCEPTION
IS CREATED WITH THE GENEROUSLY USED
MARMARA MARBLE, AND A CORDIAL INVITING AND
CHARACTERIZED SPACE IS CREATED AS WOODEN
MATERIALS, LIVELY COLORS AND ANGLE PLAYS MITIGATE
THE FEELING OF STERILITY..
Roche Turkey Headquarters, the concept design of which is done by MW
Arquitetura and its architectural design and application by Bakırküre Architects,
has four storeys. The reception area and the lobby on the ground
floor is designed to stress the identity of the pharmaceuticals company
Roche. A natural and sterile setting perception is created with the generously
used Marmara marble, and a cordial inviting and characterized
space is created as wooden materials, lively colors and angle plays mitigate
the feeling of sterility. The entrance part, which plays host to a rather
high traffic and a large number of international visitors, also serves as a
waiting and display area. For that reason, it was sought to stress also the
company’s local image in Turkey as much as its global identity, in details
like lighting fixtures and murals. The inner void the visitor guided by strip
lighting and broken units expected to reach is at the same time, the
heart of the of the office. This broad space, which establishes a visual
relationship between floors, also providing natural lighting, is at the
same time an assembly location. The external reflection of this inner
void full of motion results in a lively space created by red perforated
metal panels.
Between the open concept work areas and transparent rooms on the
floors are placed conference rooms in various size and features, compact
kitchens, leisure and easy working areas, individual work stations
and thematic rooms, leading to an accessible and dynamic design. A
part of the first floor is dedicated to the training of Roche team; a multi-
purpose area always ready to use is created with the aid of moving systems
in the space overall.
