The project is designed as two identical villas in a 700-sqm plot in the
Gobene Neighborhood of Alacatı, one of the most “popular” areas of
Ceşme in terms of villa construction/sales.
The land having a rather narrow road facade called for a plan that includes
L-shaped back to back houses that allow for utilizing the width
of the entire land in gardens, instead of having 2 adjacent narrow
houses. The long land is utilized in a way that all spaces, including the
ones on the first floor, would face the living space of the corresponding
house, which also minimized the contact with the private life at the
adjacent plot. Moreover, this settlement layout eradicated the privacy
issue, one of the biggest problems in twin villas stemming from living
spaces of neighbors being next to each other.
Designed along the full width of the land, the narrow yet long swimming
pool features a jacuzzi area combined with the pool’s stairs. Apart
from the terrace that is adjacent to the kitchen of the villa, there is also
a fire pit, whose elevation is lower than the garden next to the pool.
Natural materials have been opted for the facade. Iroko cladding is
used horizontally at the upper floor in a way that supports the linear
mass of the building. Natural wooden lining is tackled continuously at single intervals outside the windows of the bathroom and walk-in
closet. Iroko cladding is framed with densely textured plaster surfaces
having anthracite colors. The Cool Gray marble facing used
on the ground floor has been adorned with horizontal lines. This
marble, which intrinsically reveals color and tone differences, has
been used in 10-15-25 cm width and free length dimensions, highlighting
the horizontal layout. Stone sandblasting and patinating
processes have been implemented to unveil the texture and color of
the natural stone and create a contrast with the wooden finishing
on the upper floor. The well of the stairs connecting the two floors
is made visible at the facade through wooden pillars with glazing in
between them.
The fireplace wall of the living room has Cool Gray marble – also
used at the facades – implemented solely through the patinating
process so as to give the stone a soft tactile sensation. The shelves
on the fireplace wall have also been created with natural stones.
