Celebrating the very best within museums and heritage visitor attractions, the UK-based “18th Museums + Heritage Awards” recently announced the 2020 Winners at its first ever online ceremony. The winner of this year’s International Project of the Year (implemented with an investment of over 1 Million Pounds) went to the OMM – Odunpazarı Modern Museum, after having been shortlisted with four other museums in other parts of the world. Currently over the moon over its win, OMM is the first ever Turkish museum of modern not to not only receive the award (out of 15 categories), but to also beat out prestigious institutions such as MoMA, the Ashmolean (Oxford) Museum, and the Royal Collection Trust. Founded by art collector and Polimeks Holding chairman Mr. Erol Tabanca, and designed by the world-renowned Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, OMM celebrated its first birthday on September 7. In addition to ushering in visitors both from across Turkey and all over the globe, it more importantly brings people of all ages together through its many education programs, seminars, artist meetings, workshops, and dynamic list of exhibitions. OMM’s goal is to foster the arts and culture not only in Eskişehir but also across Turkey, all the while deepening its pool of artwork produced by young artists.
