Turgut Cansever awards’
2019 winners have been announced.
The panel and awards
ceremony took place on March
15. The awards are presented to
commemorate Turgut Cansever,
who came to the fore with
his works coinciding with the
region, promote his urbanism
and architecture understanding,
highlight site-sensitive and
qualified architectural products
on national and international
stage, develop architectural and
environmental awareness, document
architectural products, improve communication
and promotion towards architecture
culture between Turkey and
international scene, and foster fine arts.
This year’s Turgut Cansever Grand
Prize is granted to Doğan Tekeli. Without
practising favoritism between national
and international candidates and
grounding on priorities such as the sensitivity
shown to the site and and context,
cultural sustainability and refinement of
materials and details during architectural
design and implementation phase, the
prize is presented to an architect who
has the ability to raise awareness and
who can stand out as an example and a
role model in contemporary architecture
scene with their projects and works to
be carried out in their lifespan. Turgut Cansever Building Award is presented to both Omer Selcuk Baz
with his Museum of Troy project in Canakkale and Yusuf Burak Dolu
with his Taraklı Urban Park project in Sakarya. Grounding on priorities
such as the sensitivity shown to the site and context, cultural sustainability
and refinement of materials during the architectural design and
implementation phase, the award is presented to two buildings and
their architect(s), which have the ability to raise awareness and which
can stand out as an example in contemporary architecture scene.
Turgut Cansever Local Achievement Award is presented to Ahmet
Mucip Urger, Şemsettin Tugay, Ali Ozer and Olgu Calışkan for their
Konyaaltı Urban Design and Coastline Rehabilitation project. Based
on implementations conducted in the Antalya region and grounding
on priorities such as the sensitivity shown to the site and context,
cultural sustainability and refinement of materials and details during
the architectural design and implementation phase, the award is presented
to a building and its architect(s), which has the ability to raise
awareness and which can stand out as an example in contemporary
architecture scene.
Moreover, Jury’s Special Award is presented to Metin Kılıc and Durrin
Suer for their Hanging Gardens project in İzmir, and Cihan Sevindik,
Tuna Han Koc, Doğan Turkkan and Zeynep Canan Aksu for their
Antalya Muratpaşa Municipality Turkan Şoray Cultural Center project.
