Turkey’s first modern and contemporary art museum Istanbul Modern’s new building designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and its exhibitions were opened to visitors as of Thursday, May 4th. The new building, which is the first project of Renzo Piano in Turkey, was planned to provide a suitable place for Istanbul by focusing on the visitors to allow all kinds of cultural, artistic, and educational activities. The new building of Istanbul Modern was built with the joint contribution of Eczacıbaşı Group that the founding sponsor of the museum and the main sponsor Doğuş Group-Bilgili Holding Company. The five-floor museum building hosts exhibitions and programs with a 10.500 square meter usage area have a place to; large exhibition halls, multi-purpose spaces, offices, rooms for education and different cultural events, and also other activities. The design of the building was inspired by the shimmering waters of the Bosphorus with its façade covering three-dimensionally shaped aluminum panels creating light and shadow games with the changing sunlight and reflections from the water at all hours of the day.
