Located in West Dharma Village, Fangshan District, Beijing, In S&N Resort is conveniently located amidst mountains and trees. The river, which runs down the mountain through the middle of the site, contains huge stones that have rounded after years of scouring, and various trees grow on the riverside. The surrounding context depicts a natural and quiet Zen realm. The overall architectural form fluctuates with the mountain’s ups and downs. The construction logic is a combination of different features of southern and northern folk houses. The famous residential settlement named “Cuan” is not far from the site, an iconic stone residential typology in north China. Therefore, the foundation was made of brick and stone. The wooden structure on the second floor is designed in a modern context, inspired by the structure of Naxi public houses in the southern province of Yunnan.

The massive stone structure not only blocks moisture and stabilizes the foundation, but also organically integrates the building with its natural environment. While the stone building materials were chosen from the surroundings of the land, local craftsmen were employed in practice. The building has created integrity and continuity with the regional characteristics and the spirit of the environment. The sloping roof, with its traditional housing forms, created an elegant and calm environment for the hotel. The hotel lobby and guest rooms, connected by a bridge, are positioned across the river for guests to experience natural life. With a total of 24 guest rooms, including beachfront rooms and rooms with terraces, the views around the site make the building an integral part of the environment. The terraces are designed as platforms where guests can chat, drink tea, and enjoy the beautiful scenery in a natural environment. The infinity pool in the hotel’s courtyard creates the perfect setting for the hot summer months, while the large French windows and red bricks in the hotel rooms transform the outdoor landscape into a lively painting. During the design process, it was aimed that the travelers could enjoy nature with a calm and peaceful stroll by showing due respect to the existing landscape. S&N Resort was conceived as an integration of the concepts of “natural” and “luxury” and an expression of visitors’ longing to embrace nature. The project, which sets a rare example for visitors to walk in the mountains along the rivers during the lush summer months, offered the opportunity to experience quiet and pure nature away from the city.
