The GAK House designed by Yalın Tasarım Mimarlık in İstanbul, Koşuyolu started in 2020 during the pandemic period. An increase was demanded in the number of beds in order to meet crowded family gatherings and a playroom for children. In addition, since it is desired to increase the storage areas and use the bedrooms in the most efficient way for the children of the house, the functions are planned accordingly and the spaces are personalized according to their users. The main purpose of the design team throughout the process has been to construct a balance between function and aesthetics. While providing all these, it was aimed to create a timeless style where geometric forms can be read in a modern and simple line, warm and cold tones are used in balance, and natural materials come to the fore. In material selections, a design language in which natural material is at the center is the priority, while wooden surfaces and marble are chosen and harmonious colors and textures were preferred. Although the design language is planned in a plain and simple line, the detailed analysis is far from simple and is solved in a processed way. Even though the furniture details on the TV unit in the living room were not noticed at first glance, there were solutions that were decided upon by having many samples made in the workshop. For the selection of natural stone materials, which have a calm and spacious marble was chosen. With this choice, a spacious and calm effect is achieved, while the warm effect of wooden surfaces is balanced with a colder material. Although the flexible structure of the selected marble limits the use of large sizes, the TV unit can be applied in a way that consists of two pieces of marble slabs. The design team, which has to use the space efficiently, worked with the awareness of evaluating every corner and solved some special details. While one of these areas is the cloakroom area, special furniture solutions, and baby beds are added under the beds in order to increase the bed capacity in the children’s rooms. In order to use the playroom planned for children as a guest room at the same time, a hidden bed that can be opened and closed in the room has been solved. While the design team expresses that the language of this project and the line of the office exactly match, they say that the project has a different meaning in this context.
