Art on Istanbul introduces the exhibition entitled “The Face is Everything” by Horasan, where a 25-piece portrait installation selected through the last 20 years of artist’s portrait works can now be experienced along with polyptych figurative portraits focusing on “face”. The exhibition can be visited until November 19. In the exhibition hosting works on paper and canvas, Horasan creates a theme with reference to the representation of facial expressions where human emotions can be examined. In this context, paper and canvas works assembled by the artist create “narratives” where facial expressions are centralized. Starting point for the artist was the charcoal portraits (faces) of individuals posing for him since his childhood. While drawing faces, Horasan seeks to know humans better and try to understand them more deeply. In his own words: “Drawing a face is like defining the world.” Tackling “faces” beyond traditional limits, Horasan’s works can be seen as a window opening for both Horasan and the audience rather than the characters and their expressions. Having a pattern that captures and presents the distinct, unique, symbolic and expressive aspects of human face, none of these faces directly refer to a specific figure. Horasan’s works are highly leaning on imagination and therefore difficult to comprehend yet owing to this quality, Horasan focuses on portraying a certain kind of emotion pattern along with his studies allowing new and different interpretations instead of memorized and familiar “faces”.
