Set for October 2, 2023, World Architecture Day is celebrated every year on the first Monday of October, in parallel with the UN World Housing Day. The International Union of Architects (UIA) has set this year’s theme as “Architecture for Resilient Communities”. With this theme, the UIA aims to highlight the capacity and responsibility of architecture to create a livable community life and to initiate a worldwide debate on the link between urban and rural areas.
“Uncontrolled urban sprawl around the world threatens social and economic stability. Climate crises, pandemics and political turmoil in many countries are also exposing social, economic and environmental inequalities that threaten communities and greatly affect the poor and disadvantaged. The world is faced with the difficult task of how best to respond to today’s climatic and social challenges.” Throughout the year, the International Union of Architects invites architects from member countries to generate ideas, develop innovative solutions, and develop urban planning concepts that enable the design of livable buildings and public spaces.
