Hybrid Villas, designed on valuable land on the Güzelbahçe coastline by PINART Architecture requires an efficient, intensive, and compact solution of spatial and functional relations in terms of customer expectations and demands, as well as existing land conditions, regulations, and Güzelbahçe plan decisions. Due to the current constraining conditions of the land, which can be considered as relatively “narrow and long” in terms of width and length ratio, the architectural language and functional fiction represented different dominant characters on east and west facades. Therefore the idea of the “hybrid concept” developed.
.
.
On the other hand, steel profiles were used in order to reflect the practicality, structural potential, and structural volume of spaces with the reinforced concrete main structure. Therefore, the villas also show hybridity in terms of structure.

As a regulation, the bay window and cantilever cannot be positioned on the facade facing the neighboring parcel so they designed only on the eastern facade at the side of the existing road.
Since the distance between existing buildings and the project is wide through the road, the sea view can be observed from the northeast direction. Accordingly, wide openings are placed on the east facade. Aluminum sunshades were designed above the wide openings to provide shading of the spaces.
.
.
Since the distance between buildings on the neighboring parcel is considered insufficient in terms of privacy, narrow and long openings are placed on the west facade to provide privacy and also protection of the spaces from the sunlight.
The project aimed to create a continuous sharp mass by providing an integrated image on the north and south facades through aluminum sunshades on the east side and on the roof on the west side. Thus it provided a reminder of the concept of the “home image” sociologically.
.
.
The sunshades defined by the continuous mass on the west facade and bay windows on the eastern façade integrate on the first floor and form the architectonic mass. That unity gives the project identity through the “hybrid concept”.
On the ground floor, the continuous mass which is harmonious with the land, acts as a base that emphasizes the concept. It aimed to create links with traditional Güzelbahçe Houses so volcanic tuff as natural stone was preferred for ground floor cladding due to its high thermal insulation value, durability (resistance to abrasion, rain, wind, temperature change, etc.), longevity as well as natural and flowing surface and aesthetic reasons.
To harmonize the stone on the exterior, with the vertical linear lines and grid on the façade, vein-cut volcanic tuff was used. The contrast between the two floors is provided due to the sharp, vertical lines on the ground floor and the fluid, soft and flowing texture of the volcanic tuff. In order to emphasize contrast, ancient yellow-white vein cut volcanic tuff with two colors and fluid patterns, extracted from the Nevşehir / Acıgöl – Tatlarin Quarry in the Cappadocia region, preferred.
In the interior, slate is preferred in order to harmonize with color, texture, size, and architectural language. Slate with thin and hidden mortar was applied in order to make the spaces look wider and more spacious than they are and to obtain an unlimited view. Slate is a local natural stone extracted from Bayındır, İzmir. Especially in the living room, it aimed to control the scale with the use of natural stone and to provide warmth, peace, and serenity in spaces, as well as to capture a unique ambiance.
