Located
in the Güzelbahçe region of İzmir, Koray Arslan House shows itself between the
pine and olive forests surrounding by its linear plan setting. The building,
which has a 2,40 m. elevation difference in the east-west direction, enriches
space perceptions with its two and three-storey height galleries, and shares
clues about the traces of the daily flow in the residence. The glass surface
that surrounds the façade along two floors in the west direction not only
creates highly permeable and bright spaces in the common area, but also allows
the integration of daily life and nature. 4,5 m consolo slabs on the south and
west facades allow daylight to fall on the spaces at different angles for four
seasons. These consoles, which are produced by reinforcing steel beams on cork
slabs, create shade outdoors in summer and facilitate the absorption of sunrays
in winter. The use of reinforced concrete slabs and brut concrete in the
interior improves the visual and tactile exploration of the material and the
relationship between the space and the individual. Unusual floor heights,
reflections in the interior, natural state of the material and structure are
removed from the ordinary. The Koray Arslan House, which consists of three
floors, the lower floor, the upper floor and the first floor, is accessed from
the lower ground floor with an outdoor staircase. The entrance hall with the
wooden staircase stretching over three floors provides a spatial and visual
connection between the floors thanks to the gallery space where the staircase
is hung. While the marble flooring used in the living area adds richness to the
space; the metal fireplace, which is connected to the floor, both physically
warms the space and creates a visual reference point. The pool, which is
located in the west direction outside, also creates a viewpoint for the seating
area. Upstairs accessed by a sculptural staircase; master bedroom, master
bathroom, dressing room, two children’s rooms and a bathroom. On the first
floor of the building, there are sauna, study, hobby rooms and terrace and
service units (such as iron, laundry room) for the residence. The green texture
is reinforced by preserving olive trees, which hold an important place in the
existing landscape, by adding fruit trees and pine trees. In addition to
settling like an object exhibited in the natural environment in which it is
located, Koray Arslan House creates a scene where the natural flow of daily
life is watched in the interior.
