Awarded as Next Generation Designer of The Year 2017 by Wallpaper* and Officine Panerai, Gustavo Martini was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As he has lived the majority of his life there, Martini has a strong sense of connection with the city which he believes combines two contrasting worlds: the metropolis with all the chaos and vertical grey landscape together with the surrounding rainforest and hidden waterfalls. His creations explore these contrasts and carry these mixed realities. By working with a strong identity, he has been known for his ability to produce either products or art installations worldwide. His greatest passion is to create, with complete freedom of expression. Martini explores concepts, forms, and volumes to create a stripped experimental language that makes a unique style that can be easily recognized.

Rise
The Rise project by Gustavo Martini explores the staircase, an archetype of architecture. By alienating the step form from the staircase function, he constructs a geometric universe that manipulates the visitors’ perception and the products’ relationship with the surrounding space. These step-shaped objects turn into a marble furniture collection exists in a moving environment. The collection consisting of three pieces of furniture made of white marble (armchair, bench, bookcase) is combined with solid black marble elements.

Italic
Italic is a collection of brilliant sculptures that explore the aesthetic aspects of the typographic universe. The design based on the idea of modifying the typography in order to communicate a specific subject, is aimed that the “writing” becomes the subject again in itself. Just like what’s left of the “Serif” font, the work, in which every symbol is composed of main parts and lines, aims to move society away from traditional codes.
