Istanbul Kultur University Faculty of Architecture is planning workshops in collaboration with SALT Galata as part of the International Symposium “Republic, Architecture and the City: 100 Years of Heritage”. As part of the symposium, within the scope of the workshops “Searching for Design in the Memory of the Republic: A Visual Reading Experiment” and “Looking at the Republic from the Archives from Wall to Wall”, which will be held in Salt Galata on September 29-30. Participants are expected to make a creative reading on architecture, design, city and art through the determined themes of the history of the Republic.
Ceren Göğüş, Şeyda Şen, Berkay Oskay and Merve Aksoy Oral conducted the “Searching for Design in the Memory of the Republic: A Visual Reading Experiment” workshop, through the visual accumulation in the Salt Galata archive, of the Republican era design practices as a decor in social daily life. It is aimed to examine and reconsider the process they go through from their assets in their home to their use as a tool that triggers change. In the workshop, besides the archive scanning, various methods, tools and resources of the period will be examined.
In the workshop “Looking at the Republic from Wall to Wall from the Archive”, physical walls will be focused on the scales of the city, building and interior, and a society-oriented alternative history reading will be tried through the history of the wall. The workshop will be conducted by Elif Gelmez Demir, Furkan Evliyaoğlu and Armağan Gülhas. Applications to the workshops will be made online until July 5th.
