Nestled in an old olive grove, along the village trail, BD House in Çanakkale is situated at the highest point of the plot to take advantage of the immense views. In BD House designed by Paker Mimarlık, private and communal spaces of the house are expressed via geometrically similar and repetitive structures separated by a courtyard. Perched atop existing masonry retaining walls and shifted towards the vista, the main structure houses indoor communal spaces, whereas adjacent smaller part houses private family rooms. Across the courtyard, the annex houses guest rooms on ground floor with services and olive oil storage in the basement.
The swimming pool lies on flat topography of the plot facing the views of the North Aegean. Vernacular features such as tiled parapet gable roof and masonry walls are reinterpreted to blend in with the local fabric of the surroundings and to provide a contemporary refuge for the inhabitants.
