A total of 17 artists who graduated in different years
from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts,
are coming together with the Free Fire 5 (Atış Serbest
5) exhibition to be held at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts
University, Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center’s
Cistern Galleries.
Free Fire was inaugurated in 2012 with the initiatives of
three lecturers. The starting point of these exhibitions
was the competence in opening up alternative areas
on the occasion of the active use of their spaces
pertaining to the university and being able to come
side by side spontaneously beyond the dominant
curatorial perception of the period.
The theme “Free Fire” humorously refers to this state
of spontaneity, while also underlining the historical
function of Tophane-i Amire (The Ottoman Royal
Cannon Foundry). Shaped around the participations
of numerous artists, who are engaged in different
disciplines and whose paths have crossed at some point
with the Academy, Free Fire is being organized for its
5th edition this year. The exhibition, which introduces
“being able to come together” as a theme instead of
gathering under definition-based themes, is open until
May 12th.
