The Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (IMIB) hosts the Natural Stone Design Competition as a contribution to the future of Turkey’s natural stone sector. With 2019 marking the Competition’s 8th edition, the deadline for applications wrapped up on October 29. The purpose of the competition was to encourage Turkish designers to come up with avant-garde designs and products that not only showcase natural stone’s wide applicability, but also that are also industrially and commercially viable. The organization’s owners will personally award the winners at a ceremony in November. Two main categories, Student and Professional, alongside seven sub-categories, including Architecture, Urban Spaces, Decorative Products, Furniture, New Approaches & Applications for Living Spaces (Walls, Floors), Bathroom & Kitchen, and Public Sculptures are up for grabs. As with previous years, this year’s projects too were to be submitted online to the competition’s website (www.dogaltastasarimyarismasi. com) by the aforementioned deadline. Only Turkish stone could be used. Judges moreover were asked to pay attention to both the stone’s technical aspects, as well whether or not the product could be mass manufactured. Contestant teams were to include no more than 10 people. Professional category grand prizewinners are to receive 15.000 TL while second and third place winners are to receive 10.000 and 7.000 TL. Student category grand prizewinners, on the other hand, are to receive 10.000 TL, whereas second and third place winners are to receive 5.000 and 2.500 TL respectfully.
