Elsa Ers comes before viewers at PG Art Gallery January 21 – February 25 with her personal exhibition entitled “Sacred + Secular”. In her new exhibition composed of mixed technical art, Ers seeks to shape her personal inspiration through the themes of displacement, belonging and cultural identity. In her works, she repeats by batching certain elements borrowed from her cultural heritage with the components of global contemporary culture; she creates a visual language stressing the elements of ‘bringing together’ and ‘home making’, one of the most profound inner qualities of women. The artist, who adopts Turkish rug patterns as the protective cocoon symbol for woman identity, and weaving them with old family photos she collected from old book sellers and images from science books, restructures the dilemma of yearning for novelty and the past, which has made its mark on 21st century; finding a place for itself especially in women’s psychology.
