“Zamancı” (Timer), focused on Ali Kazma’s artistic production during the decade since 2005, brings together 25 video presentations selected from different periods and series, most of which will be shown in Turkey for the first time. The curator of the show which is an integral perspective on Kazma’s works, is ARTER Exhibition’s Director Emre Baykal, who was the curator also of the artist’s project entitled “Resistance” (2013) at 55th Venice Biennial Turkish Pavilion.
The artist, in his “Engellemeler” (Obstructions) series comprising 16 pieces, investigates the tense equilibrium between order and chaos, life and death, the human being’s efforts for keeping together a world tending to disintegrate, to vanish; and the diversity of the physical production he has developed to achieve this and what such production means in the nature of man. “Resistance”, on the other hand, concentrates on interventions and strategies, recovering and freeing the body from its constraints; also limiting and controlling it.
“Zamancı” may be viewed at ARTER from January 30 to April 5, 2015.
