88-year-old Prof. Sadi Diren, who has designed murals for AKM and many more buildings, is the sole living ceramic artist of the Republic history. The works by Sadi Diren, who has lead to the birth of a new concept in the art of ceramics with his measured use of form and color, his plastic concept in shaping clay and his glazing technique, are brought to viewers in a retrospective show curated by Duygu Bağlan and Emre Zeytinoğlu. Ceramic panels, sculptures and figures of Diren comprising 65 pieces, may be visited until March 22 at D’Art Gallery, the only gallery in Turkey exhibiting just ceramic works.
Examining Anatolian art in his works, Diren uses as his themes humans, nature, animals, plants, peace, love of the human being and solidarity. He is inspired from Anatolian civilizations like the Hittites and the Phyrigians by employing a technique he gets from the west. In addition to his ceramic ware, pots and sculptures; Sadi Diren, who has made great efforts on integration of the Turkish ceramic industry with art, has ceramic tiles and murals on the walls of numerous important buildings of the country, including Atatürk Culture Center (AKM).
