Kontra Architecture explains its understanding in interior architecture projects as a matter of personal involvement for every detail in spaces it creates, from communication design to the works of art within them, from the tableware to the lighting systems. Comprised of furnitures and lighting products designed and produced by the team within the scope of this understanding, a collection with new products making their debut is exhibited at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris, one of the leading events that steers the world of interior architecture and design.
Organized annually with a different theme, Maison & Objet adopts the theme of “Comfort Zone” this year. Mari-Jo Malait, the coordinator of the exhibition’s “Observations” section and editor of the “Inspirations” book, describes the “Comfort Zone” as follows: “The desire to move away from the uncomfortable regions of the unstable and unsafe world, attributed a new and special meaning for many people feeling good in their homes today. A new generation of protective, soft materials in comfortable ‘cocoons’, playful forms, pastel colors and textures, which are designed to soften both the body and the soul and to fulfill our longing to relaxation, appears with new interpretations and technologies. Having pleasant interventions with refined aesthetics for our houses to relax; bringing warm and contemporary interpretations to our workspaces for creating serenity in our professional lives are all in the agenda of today’s ‘comfortable designs’. In other words: establishing a lifestyle that feels 100% good.”
Take A Seat, the sitting element which it has designed and produced for its office years ago and the lighting elements Clarify and Tulip, welcome the visitors of the fair following numerous people in many interior design projects, at the “Comfort Zone” exhibition of Kontra Architecture. For those in search of a more relaxed setting, Sarr and Lounge Chair present playful interpretations with their innovated designs for Maison & Objet 2017. Rolling out for the first time with this exhibition, the new seating elements; Macaron, Q Chair and Cube Chair, start off from the belief that power of design unearths from contrasts and unexpected encounters which also inspires the name and works of Kontra Architecture. Cloud, Flank and Stack among the exhibited furnitures also have this exact understanding.
Along with contrasts such as familiar and innovative, traditional and contemporary, local and global, soft and hard, dark and light, matte and bright, raw and refined, together with unexpected shifts, present a pleasant and surprising experience of comfort for the visitors of Maison & Objet exhibition of Kontra Architecture.
Interior architecture design and implementation projects of Kontra Architecture, founded by Gülşah Cantaş in 2009, include workplaces, food & beverage spaces, hotels, dwellings and outlets. It also provides concept design, branding, market trend analysis, brand strategy and identity development, furniture and lighting design and implementations and UX design services. Kontra Architecture team carries on their operations in their office located in Cihangir, Istanbul.
Organized twice a year in September and January in Paris, Maison & Objet is also held once a year in Singapore and Miami. Shining out as one of the global trendsetters in the fields of interior architecture and design, the fair is one of the most anticipated events of the year: it was visited by over 85,000 people last year. Realized within the scope of Paris Design Week events spreading over the city during the fall, Maison & Objet takes place between September 8-12, 2017 this year. Focusing on a different theme every year, the fair hosts conferences, events and installations in accordance with the specified theme.
