Organized by IMIB for the sixth edition this year adopting the “Give Life to Stone” motto, the natural stone design competition is concluded. Edizalp Akın from Kadir Has University ranked first in the professional category while Burak Koçak from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University came first in the student category.
Organized by Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association along with the contributions and support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Economy, “6th Natural Stone Design Competition” has concluded with an award ceremony. Organized under the leadership of IMIB, which attaches great importance to design and makes every effort to bring it to forefront on all occassions, with the support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of economy; Natural Stone Design competition has completed its sixth edition this year.
Organized institutionally in order to demonstrate that design is essential for the natural stone industry and to assemble the sector, college students and professionals together under the same platform of design, the competition hosted 518 projects this year with two seperate categories for students and professionals.
Manufacturability, expanding natural stone’s area of utilization, environmental awareness, ease of maintenance and use, possession of export potentials, innovation – creativity and being functional in use; were all among the evaluation criteria of the jury.
Led by the chairman Asst. Prof. Ahmet Turan Köksal and comprised of Selçuk Avcı, Görkem Volkan, Heval Zeliha Yüksel Üçok, Emine Merdim Yilmaz, Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Zeki Turan, Dila Gökalp, Prof. İpek FİTÖZ, Asst. Prof. Şebnem Ertaş and numerous venerable industry representatives; the jury evaluated 493 projects including 185 student and 308 professional applicants. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University ranked first with 66 projects, Anadolu University ranked second with 44 projects and Istanbul Technical University ranked third with 37 projects.
As part of the competition adopting the motto “Give Life to Stone”, the jury evaluated projects in 4 different categories; “Flooring and Wall Cladding”, “Hotel Lobby and Mall Entrance”, “Turkish Bath and Bathroom” and “Decorative Products”, and deemed 14 projects worthy of awards.
Burak Koçak (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) ranked 1st, İrem Kaydu ranked 2nd, Aybüke Güler and Koral Oral from Özyeğin University both ranked 3rd in the student category of the competition. As for the professional category, Edizalp Akın (Kadir Has University) ranked 1st, Fatih Kuzu – Ozan Yalçın (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) ranked 2nd and Mehmet Ali Şanlı – Filiz Yılmaz (Karadeniz Technical University – Kocaeli University) ranked 3rd.
