PRIOR TO HIS PERSONAL EXHIBITION TITLED “DUALITY”, WHICH WILL OPEN AT THE GALLERY SELVIN IN MAY, LET US TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SCULPTOR SERDAR KAYNAK AND HIS SUCCESSFUL WORKS.
Serdar Kaynak concentrates on elements such as “duality, duplexing, dilemma, dual balance” in his works. He attempts to design his form approach accordingly and create it as an element that complements the contrast balance in nature and in the universe. With respect to the meanings in the subject, he shapes contrast, contradiction with an emotional approach that could lead to conflict.
While “Duality” is available in all areas in life, it also poses as an important balance in life with respect to contrast-contradiction. The “Life Tree”, subject to the topic, is interpreted as the seal of the change and transformation experienced by the individual following an intellectual, imaginary conflict. The sculptures in the exhibition are handled in line with the contrasts tackled by the artist, not dialectically, but as a motion, a connection that put forward the phenomena of an entirety, their flows as relative to each other, and time.
“I VISUALIZE MY STATUES MOSTLY ON ABSTRACT THOUGHTS AND UNIVERSAL FEELINGS. I THINK ABOUT THE STATUES EVERY DAY. THESE THOUGHTS ALWAYS KEEP ME FILLED AND SHARP. WHILE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF LIFE LIVES ITS OWN CHANGE, IT IS EASY TO GET ANYTHING FROM IT.”

“SOMETIMES THOUGHTS MAY BE SKETCHES OR MODELS. SOMETIMES I WORK DIRECTLY ON THE STONE. IN THIS STAGE THE SIZE OF THE STATUE TAKES ITS FIRST STEP ACCORDING TO THE STONES IN MY WORKSHOP. THE MOMENT YOU GRAB THE RIGHT STONE AND PUT IT ON YOUR COUNTER, THE PAINFUL PROCESS STARTS. WORKING ON STONES REQUIRES DISCIPLINE AND BEING CONTROLLED. IT CAPTURES YOU. THE MOMENT YOU TALK TO THE STONE IS THE MOMENT YOU TALK TO YOUR SOUL. IT LEAVES ITSELF TO YOU IF YOU APPROACH IT WITH LOVE. WHEN THE STATUE IS COMPLETED A SMILE ON YOUR FACE TAKES THE PLACE OF EFFORTS. I CANNOT COMPARE THIS FEELING BY ANY OTHER MATERIAL. BUT A STATUE MUST BE ONE IN THE RIGHT SIZE BY THE RIGHT MATERIAL. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.”

Serdar Kaynak was born in Çorum in 1977. He was graduated in 2001 from Anatolia University Fine Arts Faculty Department of Statue. He started the post graduate program in 2014 in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He opened 6 personal exhibitions inland. He attended many group exhibitions, exhibitions and symposiums.
