Nişantaşı neighborhood now is not just the center of
shopping in Istanbul but is also a dining and night life
center. Taba Architects has strived to create a location
where consumers will come into contact with a relaxing
and refreshing atmosphere in this high paced and
mostly fatiguing area.
The venue opened in 1999, which has been serving under the cafe concept
so far, was enlarged two-fold with this project when management
made the decision to go on with a restaurant identity.
The project has 300 m² indoor and 70 m² outdoor space. 80 m2 of the
220 m2 dining area is allocated to kitchen and service spaces. The lounge
and bistro functions relationed to the bar are emphasized on the ground
floor, with the entirety of the first floor designed as a dining room. Daylight
is utilized as much as possible, thanks to the sliding folding joinery
along the garden front, allowing the integration of the summer with the
garden.
At the point of selecting materials, Taba Mimarlık defines itself as a team
that wishes to work with as little as possible and natural materials. Three
types of natural materials are emphasized in this project.
Silver-gray (Biecik) marble, oak and brass. Serene colors accompany these three materials.
The striking impact of turquoise lacquered glass and house plants are
used on the two short sides of the main hall for the impression of depth
and vitality.
When using silver-gray marble for different surfaces and functions, varying
sizes and details have been employed. Noting that thus they were able
to stay away from crowded materials, Taba Architects add:
“Our focus was custom-made lighting and metal sculptures. We made
sure that the space is embedded in the memories of the patrons experiencing
it.”
