Architect Vedat Tokyay:
While creating the concept for the settlement located in the Ayasaranda region, which is a very special bay of Çeşme, we aimed to establish the architectural language through the association of natural materials (natural stones/pebblestones and natural woods). In the meantime, we used every means possible to create an ecological architectural language. We have tried to produce an ecological architecture by using parameters such as the natural materials inside the structure, which stand for the most important input of ecology; increasing isolation, using rainwater in water tanks and using heat pumps, which adopt the heat accumulated in soil and provide heating and cooling at the same time, instead of air-conditioning systems with freon gas. Initially, if we have to mention wood among the opted natural building materials; a laminated wooden beam system was designed for the living areas of the villas, the upper terraces and the top floor pergolas.
As for the hotel, they have been used in the ground floor shade and the roof with the 1st floor patio of the hotel. With the wooden Thermowood system, the exterior walls of the hotel on the 2nd floor, the 1st floor terraces and the outer shell of the fire-escape stairs were designed. Some of the external walls and the 1st floor patio of the villas were also designed through the same system. Secondly, for the slates among the natural building materials; we used this material as a covering and insulating material for the facades and stone walls of the hotel and villas. We have designed the road surfaces with 8×8 cm granite cube stones; surroundings of the pool area with patterned pebbles and upper wall coping of the garden and garden stairs with white travertine. We have also reduced our energy input through the use of effective double glazing and the high insulation quality of the exterior walls. Therefore, we have included all the building materials needed to create a natural environment, into our design process.
