BACKGROUND
The project area lies in Kiriş District of Antalya Kemer County. The grounds with a surface area of 150,000 m² is a threshold where built-up area comes to an end, almost turning into a border. A ground, on the skirts of a quite steep hill, is surrounded by a dense forest texture, two coves and a quite long shore. The tree texture dividing the land lying on the east-west axis, its dedicated flora, the steep hill, the remnants of Kiriş World Hotel which was built on the grounds in 1987, the coves and shores separate the grounds into sub-zones, each having an individual context of different character.
The distinct characteristic of the said area is it’s having an identity which almost conceals and absorbs whatever it accommodates, rather than being visible.
The most important matrix of the conceptual framework of the project is the above summarized data. In that sense, each sub-zone’s respective contexts and design criteria developed on such contexts were adopted as a guide. Overall, layout decisions were formed in line with those.
The hotel accommodates 133 suites of 100 m², 84 family suits of 185 m² in the main building; 59 laguna villas of 150 m² – 250 m² – 310 m², and 15 beach villas of 250 m² – 350 m² 450 m² on the shore with 291 rooms in total. There are 6 a la carte restaurants and 4 bars.
VILLA AREA
The broad plane area lying between the flora dividing the east-west axis piece of land extending to the shore and the extended shore area where green density is relatively less and accommodating the traces of old buildings. Laguna villas lined up as row houses are situated on this area.
Spacings are defined using the wall which is a structural element, as the row house typology works on in a single direction and two ways. Also, the common semi-private and private conditions of spaces defined by these spacings were addressed.
The density and order of the wall element, extension of these walls to the insides of the pool in irregular fashion, disappearing of the venues in the spacing rather than being visible leaving the structure without reference points comprise the basic motivation of the design. This union of the element of water penetrating into the inside of the building, reflecting and enhancing it, and the wall element defining the spatial setup as “spacing”, is the basic element creating the timelessness of the building complex.
It seems that the issue of the picking the materials was the basic issue to ensure that the detailing of the “wall”, which is the most important element of this building complex, can support the overall construction approach. Therefore, to mesh with nature and to be able to enhance the powerful structural effect, it was considered that the walls should have a dense cross-section. To that end, along the two surfaces of the fixed R/C setup of the walls, a natural stone application created by intense labor piling up with approximately 14 cm cross-section. Hence, the cross-section of the walls has reached a symbol, appearing like an ordinary masonry wall with the look of always having been part of the nature of its venue, holding onto the ground. Here, pieces of slate in different shades but similar dimensions were used.
THIS EFFECTIVE AND INTENSE USE OF NATURAL STONE
HAS BEEN THE MOST EFFECTIVE FACTOR IN THE CREATION
OF THE SOUGHT SENTIMENT IN THE AREA.
